I want to see your glory
In a recent street evangelism session, I preached the gospel via a makeshift platform. I did not have a script or a pre-prepared message. I was just, "opening my mouth and allowing the Lord to fill it".
During the preaching, I was stunned when I heard myself say that when I was a youth, I responded to the Lord's plans of renown for me, to prosper me and give me hope and a future, according to Jeremiah 29:11. I was calling people to experience the plans that the Lord has for them.
As I study the lives of some of the men who saw the glory of the Lord, as he called and commissioned them to do his bidding, I realised that my desire to see the glory of Jesus is linked with God's call to me to do his work. I find this to be exciting news! It, therefore, gives me a greater desire to see the glory of Jesus because they who saw it were changed forever.
Since studying Jesus' prayer in John 17: 20-26, the cry of my heart has been to see his glory, which is a legitimate request that Jesus' prayed to his Father for those who the Father gave to him, to be where he is and to see his glory.
"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world". John 17: 24
Moses saw the glory of God in the burning bush and became a great leader in Israel.
- Exodus 3: 1-22 depicts an extraordinary encounter of Moses with God, the I AM. Yahweh revealed himself to Moses through flames of fire from within a bush that was not consumed.
Moses turned to see the amazing sight, and a voice called out to him.
God revealed his holiness by telling Moses that the ground on which he is standing is holy. This is awesome and great. One would have thought that Moses would have quaked and been afraid. As I type this, I am not afraid. I don't know how Jesus will show up to me. But my heart still cries out to see His glory!
- So, out of the burning bush, Adonai spoke to Moses, revealed himself to him as Yahweh, and gave him the task, "to rescue his people from the hand of the Egyptians and bring them out of the land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey..." - Exodus 3:8
- Moses' greatness, therefore started after God came to him and showed him his glory.
Isaiah saw the glory of God and was commissioned to be a prophet
- Isaiah chapter 6 tells of Isaiah's encounter with the glory of God and his commission. After King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the glory of the Lord. He saw the seraphim who exclaimed the Lord's holiness and global glory. This must have been such an awesome sight!
- Isaiah was overcome with the conviction of sin and cried out,
"Woe is me!" "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." - Isaiah 6:5
- What an awesome sight as Isaiah beheld Yahweh's glory and his holiness. Oh, it must have been such splendour, awesomeness and holiness!
- Yet, at that moment, he was commissioned to be a prophet to the people, to speak what the LORD gave him to speak.
Moses and Isaiah saw the glory of the Lord, which was awesome and out of this world. They experienced the holiness of the Lord that came with beholding his glory. They were then commissioned to do the Lord's business.
- I wonder what it will be like to see the Lord's glory and to hear what he will commission me to do.
Oh Lord, help me. Yet, I agree with your prayer that you prayed to the Father, for me and all believers to see your glory. I therefore cry, "Please show me your glory, Jesus, that which you had because the Father loved you before the creation of the world!
